3. Garlic Can Alter Cholesterol Levels

Garlic has high amounts of allicin. Allicin can stop the absorption of cholesterol that leads to elevated blood cholesterol levels in people with diabetes. It also repairs the liver cells by removing free radicals and repairing DNA damage. Plus, allicin stimulates the release of adiponectin, which is a hormone that lowers cholesterol levels in the blood. Studies have shown that those who eat raw garlic daily experienced higher HDL (good) cholesterol levels in their body while having lower total and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels in their body.

4. Garlic Can Lower the Risk of a Cardiac Event

People with diabetes have a significantly higher risk of suffering a cardiac event, such as a heart attack. Thankfully, eating garlic helps to lower the risk of cardiovascular difficulties. Alongside reducing blood pressure and cholesterol, both of which keep your heart healthier, garlic has also been shown to reduce soft plaque in the arteries. When soft plaque breaks off and causes a blockage, it can lead to a heart attack.
